TEHACHAPI, Calif. — A red flag warning has been issued for the Tehachapi mountains on Monday due to strong winds that could pose a fire risk, the National Weather Service said.

The Labor Day warning is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the Tehachapi, Lake Isabella and Fort Tejon areas. NWS said winds, along with dry vegetation could bring fire conditions.

The agency says northwest winds of up to 15 to 25 mph with local gusts up to 40 mph are expected across the mountains and deserts in Kern County. NWS says any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.
